Looking at pictures on the screen is fine–but it doesn’t compare to seeing the prints in real life. Want to see some? Here’s a list of some recent shows and publications that feature my photography.
The 30th annual Made in NYexhibition is a juried show at the Schweinfurth Art Center located in Auburn, NY, that features work by artists from all parts of New York State. The show runs from March 28th to May 16th, and features my cyanotype on glass “Once, August.”
This show is a series of paired cyanotypes on glass plates mounted on frames, illuminated from behind by sensor-activated “breathing” lights that respond to a person’s presence. The images create a dialogue between the past and the present, and explore the ideas of connection and transformation. This work is supported in part by funding from the Columbia County Legislature and administered by Create Council on the Arts.
SOHO PHOTO GALLERY is New York City’s longest operating member-run photography gallery. The gallery exhibits a wide range of fine-art photography including individual member shows, gallery-wide themed exhibits, national competitions and prestigious guest exhibitions. The gallery was founded by a group of New York Times photographers that believed there was a need in the photographic community for a cooperative gallery where serious photographers could exhibit their personal work and exchange ideas, learn and grow as artists.
Founded in 2015, the SE Center for Photography provides photographers an avenue to find an audience through juried exhibitions. For this international show, the center invited photographers to submit images created with all forms of alternative and historical processes, from albumen to ziatype. The show features an online gallery experience in which the pictures can be viewed.
High Rock Home in Catskill, NY, features artworks and home decor inspired by the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley. This show presents landscapes from the region, printed in gum dichromate, cyanotype and salted paper.
MVA (Modern Visual Arts) Gallery is devoted to exhibiting the work of talented artists of all levels from every region of the United States. Portals and Passages are associated with corridors, streets, tunnels, bridges and trails. They serve as symbolic entrances to other realms, real or imaginary. They can signify freedom or present the concept of crossing over into a mysterious experience. And they can even represent life-cycle Rites of Passage. This exhibit has been praised for its dramatic and entrancing imagery!
The Texas Photographic Society, based in Abilene, Texas, has been providing programs and services for photographers and their audiences across the country for over 37 years.
What a wonderful selection of images to jury! 676 images were submitted by 121 artists which meant the selection process was extremely competitive—around a 7% chance of being selected for exhibition… My juror’s eye was geared to the contemporary expression of alt pro today—where are we in 2023? I looked for images that were technically well-executed, and that the process chosen made a good “marriage” with the subject matter. The print also had to be as strong visually as its concept. The final selection is based on images that stuck in my mind through repeated viewings over a few weeks. This speaks to a work’s staying power and connection.
